The rack holds a minium of 11 knives. 

The knife magnets are not lacquered, but instead they are dipped in cold-pressed flaxseed oil, and therefore it is important to pay attention to wipe its knives well before they are hung on the knife magnet, so you avoid the iron from your knives reacting with the wood, and creates discolorations.
